Zeroboard launches new Scope 2 calculation function "Scope 2 AUTO" using smart meter electricity data from June 6th
- Automatically linking electricity data to "Zeroboard" to achieve zero labor required for Scope 2 calculations -
Zeroboard Inc.(Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Michitaka Tokeiji ; hereinafter referred to as "the Company"), which provides the GHG (greenhouse gas) emission amount calculation and visualization solution "Zeroboard, " began offering a new function, "Scope 2 AUTO," on Thursday, June 6, 2024, which uses electricity data obtained from smart meters to automatically calculate Scope 2 emissions (indirect emissions generated by the use of electricity, heat, and steam supplied by other companies).

Background and purpose of providing "Scope 2 AUTO"
The 2020 amendment to the Electricity Business Act will allow businesses other than electric utilities to fully utilize electricity data from October 2023. Electricity data from smart meters that have obtained the consent of consumers can be obtained and used by businesses, etc., for a fee, through the Electricity Data Management Association (Representative Directors: Hiroyuki Morikawa and Takao Hirai, hereinafter referred to as the Association), a general incorporated association certified by the government (*1).
The association has begun providing electricity data from 80 million smart meters nationwide, and the association's nationwide coverage of electricity data is expected to reach nearly 100% by the end of 2024.
Our "Zeroboard" has been introduced to approximately 2,600 companies, and approximately 6,000 Company including subsidiaries and affiliates (as of January 2024), with many customers collecting data from multiple location . Scope 2, which refers to emission amount derived from Energy supplied by other companies, primarily electricity, is subject to calculation by all customers, and each company devotes a significant amount of man-hours to the calculation work. Against this backdrop, we have developed and are now offering a new function, "Scope 2 AUTO," which automatically links electricity data acquired by smart meters to " Zeroboard" and eliminates the man-hours required for Scope 2 calculations.
"Scope 2 AUTO" usage flow
To use "Scope 2 AUTO," users must consent to providing their electricity data to third parties. Once the consent application process is completed through our company and the Association has accepted it, the Association's system will automatically link electricity data to "Zeroboard." By automatically allocating Emission intensity for each electricity supplier to the acquired electricity data, users can calculate Scope 2 emissions without any intervention.

How "Scope 2 AUTO" is provided and the benefits of using it
"Scope 2 AUTO" is provided as a paid optional feature for using "Zeroboard ".
This function can reduce the calculation work, which takes approximately two minutes per electricity contract (*2), to "zero," significantly reducing the amount of work required for calculating GHG emission amount overall, especially for businesses with multiple location . In addition, calculations without manual intervention prevent input errors and improve the accuracy of calculated values, leading to more reliable disclosure.
We have already received advance orders from companies with multiple location, and we aim to continue expanding the number of companies using our service.
Going forward, we will continue to leverage the strengths of our technology and collaboration with collaborative partners to develop Service that reduce the labor required for calculating GHG emission amount and support companies in their decarbonization efforts.

What is Zeroboard ?

“Zeroboard” is a solution that supports GHG emission calculation, disclosure, and reduction. It enables the calculation and visualization of domestic and international supply chain emissions, as well as emissions per product or service (Product Carbon Footprint: PCF), through a cloud-based platform. It also enables the registration of reduction contributions and water resources and supports the generation of various reports. By providing GHG reduction solutions tailored to the specific challenges of user companies, “Zeroboard” supports in their decarbonization efforts.
Based on “Zeroboard,” we have developed and started offering industry-specific products such as “Zeroboard construction” for the construction industry and “Zeroboard logistics” for the logistics industry, with industry-specific functionalities.
In addition, “Zeroboard for batteries”, a solution to comply with EU battery regulations.
