The demonstration project will be carried out at an industrial park operated by MMID as a first step in considering decarbonization.

GHG emission visualization solution at industrial park level in Indonesia

(2)Targeted economic/social issues in Indonesia

  • In the global move towards a decarbonized society, Indonesia aims to be carbon neutral by 2060. At the same time, it aims to achieve both decarbonization and economic growth, with the aim of becoming an economic leader in 2045.
  • To achieve these ambitious targets, it is necessary to accelerate economic growth, not only by growing domestic industry, but also by attracting investment from foreign companies. The promotion of decarbonization is essential for this. However, the calculation and visualization of GHG emissions for the purpose of decarbonization is not well developed.
  • More than 2,000 Japanese companies, mainly in the manufacturing sector, have set up operations in Indonesia, forming supply chains that include local companies, but the calculation and visualization of GHG emissions is not yet sufficiently advanced.

(3) Cooperation with local companies/governments

  • The project will deploy Zeroboard, a cloud service to calculate and visualize GHG (Greenhouse gas) emissions, in an industrial park operated by MMID (60% owned by Marubeni Corporation (Chiyoda-ku, Japan) and 40% owned by Algoma Nungar Group (Jakarta, Indonesia)). The project will promote the introduction and demonstration of GHG emissions visualization for tenant companies in MMID-operated industrial parks using Zeroboard. KDDI will be responsible for handling supports about GHG emissions calculation and system inquiries from tenant companies. KADIN will also jointly conduct standardized decarbonization workshops as awareness-raising activities for tenant companies.
  • This project will create a model case for efficient GHG emissions visualization at the industrial park level by investigating the type of data linkage and required functionality specific to Indonesia.

*This project is being implemented based on the contribution of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) to the ASEAN-Japan Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC) provided in the supplementary budget. JETRO, as the project implementation secretariat, is responsible for public promotion, adoption, and support for project implementation. They support demonstration projects that contribute to solving local social problems through cooperation with companies in ASEAN countries, while utilizing the strengths of Japanese companies such as technology and know-how.
