Zeroboard to implement a Carbon Footprint of Product (CFP)data linkage demonstration project
〜 Selected for JETRO’s “Supply Chain Advancement Support Project Utilizing Digital Technology” 〜
Zeroboard Inc.（Tokyo, Japan, CEO: Tokeiji Michitaka, hereinafter “Zeroboard”）along with support from Iwatani Corporation (Headquartered in Osaka and Tokyo, Japan, President: Hiroshi Majima, hereinafter “Iwatani”) and Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited. (Bangkok, Thailand, hereinafter “Indorama Ventures”) will implement a Carbon Footprint of Product (hereinafter “CFP”) data linkage project using the cloud (hereinafter “the Project”). The Project has been selected by the Japan External Trade Organization (hereinafter “JETRO”) for their “Supply Chain Advancement Support Project Utilizing Digital Technology” (※1） (hereinafter “the Support Project”). The Project is scheduled to be implemented over the course of one year, from January to December of 2024.
Project Background
Zeroboard, the lead organizer of the Project, develops and provides the cloud service of the same name, “Zeroboard” which calculates and visualizes Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) at the corporate and product level. Zeroboard also has demonstrated experience in both decarbonization related consulting and data linkage along supply chains. While Iwatani boasts the top market share in Japan for biomass PET resin（*2） an environmentally friendly raw material.
The Support Project is aimed at improving supply chain management between Japan and ASEAN by incorporating digital technologies (overall visualization, automation, etc.) aimed at addressing human rights issues and reducing GHG emissions.
In the Project, “Zeroboard” will be used to link CFP data provided by Iwatani’s supplier, Indorama Ventures, a global sustainable chemical company and one of the world’s largest PET resin producers . The goal will be to reflect the manufacture’s efforts to reduce GHG emissions at the product level for PET resin which in turn is essential for procurement and production of low-carbon products. In the future, it is envisioned that CFP data, calculated by Indorama Ventures, will be linked to companies downstream of Iwatani in an effort to visualize GHG emissions throughout the supply chain.
Project Goals
The know-how gained from the data linkage demonstrated in the Project will be used to support other companies aiming to collaborate with their downstream and related manufacturers. The Project will also create a use case for the visualization of GHG emissions in supply chains between Thailand and Japan. The overall aim is to contribute to CFP calculations and data linkage efforts within the global supply chain.
Zeroboard and Iwatani, as alliance partners, will further focus on providing total support for low-carbon management initiatives (*3).
