press release

Zeroboard, Lexer Research, and THE HYAKUGO BANK,LTD are collaborating on the Mie Prefecture "FY2023 Demonstration Project to Calculate and Support Reduction of Product-Based CO2 emission amount in Automotive Parts Supply Chains"

- Developing a model case for CFP calculation of auto parts to promote the strengthening of competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises and decarbonization -

Zeroboard Inc.
Lexar Research Company THE HYAKUGO BANK,LTD

The Regional Carbon-Free Management Support Consortium (hereinafter referred to as the " Zeroboard "), formed by Zeroboard Inc. CEO , Company(Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO : Michitaka Tokeiji Tokeji; hereinafter referred to as "Zero Board") and Lexer Research Co., Ltd. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo (Tokyo Head Office); Representative Director: Masahiro Nakamura; hereinafter referred to as "Lexer Research"), has been commissioned by Mie Prefecture to carry out the "FY2023 Demonstration Project to Calculate and Support Reduction of Product-Based CO2 emission amount in Automotive Parts Supply Chains" (hereinafter referred to as the "Project"), and will cooperate with the three companies, including THE HYAKUGO BANK,LTD(Tsu City, Mie Prefecture; President and CEO: Masakazu Sugiura; hereinafter referred to as "THE HYAKUGO BANK,LTD").
This project aims to build a model case for future CFP calculations and reduction support in the automotive parts supply chain by acquiring the man-hours and know-how required for CFP calculations and grasping the business benefits through emission amount calculations and energy-saving diagnosis using primary data on the carbon footprint (CFP) (*1) of Tier 1/2 companies involved in automotive parts.
Furthermore, this project will be a pioneering demonstration example of calculations in accordance with the Carbon Footprint Guidelines (*2) jointly announced by the Ministry of Industry , Trade and Industry and the Ministry of the Environment in March 2023.

Business overview

This project is a demonstration project conducted in collaboration with specialized businesses commissioned by Mie Prefecture, businesses that do business directly with automobile manufacturers (OEMs) (Tier 1), and businesses that do business directly with Tier 1 (Tier 2). The project aims to identify Issue and directions for responses related to the calculation and reduction of automobile CFPs, and to deploy these to automobile-related companies within the prefecture.

Tier 1 will calculate the CFP of the products it Manufacturing by linking the CFP data of parts, raw materials, etc. procured from Tier 2, and will compare and verify the CFP calculated using secondary data. In addition, based on the latest knowledge gained from its own energy-saving efforts and direct interactions with OEMs, Tier 2 will share information, advice, and support that will contribute to improving Energy productivity and reducing CO2 emissions.
Meanwhile, with the support of the consortium and Tier 1, Tier 2 will calculate the CFP of parts, raw materials, etc. that it sells to Tier 1, and will undergo energy-saving diagnosis of its own factories, including the production processes of those parts and raw materials, to identify its own Issue .
For CFP calculations, we plan to use " zeroboard ," a GHG (greenhouse gas) calculation and visualization cloud Service provided by Zeroboard . We will also provide the knowledge gained from a model demonstration of CFP calculations in the automobile Manufacturing industry that Zeroboard was commissioned to carry out in 2022 by the Ministry of Economy, Industry .
The results and Issue obtained through this project, as well as future directions for responses, will be compiled into a report and presented at a results presentation that will be open to the public, with the aim of spreading the findings to other companies in the supply chain and other supply chains. In addition, THE HYAKUGO BANK,LTD will provide advice on report Create from the perspective of a regional Financial Institution and spread the findings to local businesses.

This project will be the first in Japan to establish a model case for CFP calculations in the automotive parts supply chain. By sharing the results and Issue of this project with companies in the prefecture, we hope to contribute to maintaining and strengthening the competitiveness of small and medium-sized automotive-related companies in the prefecture, as well as to supply chain management and decarbonization in the automotive industry.

The consortium will also use information obtained through Mie Prefecture from the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Industry and the Japan Auto Parts Industries Association, with which Mie Prefecture became the first local government to sign a partnership agreement on achieving carbon neutrality in February 2023, to promote this project.

(*1) Carbon Footprint: CFP (Carbon Footprint of Products) is the emission amount of greenhouse gases emitted throughout the entire life cycle of a product or Service , from raw material procurement to disposal and recycling, converted into CO2.

(*2) Announced by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in March 2023, the "Carbon Footprint Report" and "Carbon Footprint Guidelines" have been compiled.
