A small device that connects individuals and renewable Energy companies
In October 2022, a demonstration of a concept case for connecting individuals with renewable Energy was exhibited at Hitachi, Ltd. 's booth at CEATEC, an international exhibition of IT technology and electronics.
Hitachi, Ltd.'s demo exhibit is based on the "Carbon Offset Charger," a plug-in device that Zeroboard cooperated with in examining the business model and developing the prototype during concept development in 2020, and provides an opportunity to consider a decarbonized society that also focuses on small greenhouse gas emissions. Zeroboard is sympathetic to this concept, and hopes to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society through the implementation of carbon offset.
The palm-sized device, the Carbon Offset Charger, is placed between the electrical outlet and your electronic device. It calculates CO2 emission amount from your power consumption and displays them in real time on a display. These CO2 emission amount are offset using J-Credits, so even individuals can easily experience a CO2-free lifestyle using only a small amount of power.
The biggest feature of the Carbon Offset Charger is that it allows renewable energy power plants to choose the environmental value to be used for carbon offset. For example, it may be interesting to choose to use environmental value created in a place that you have special feelings about.
Electricity usage and environmental awareness
In order to realize a decarbonized society, each of us must be concerned about our environmental impact and change our lifestyles, rather than leaving it up to the government and corporations. However, currently, for individuals to use renewable Energy, it takes time and effort, such as researching businesses that supply electricity from solar or wind power and changing contract procedures, and it can only be used at contracted location. Therefore, it is very limited.
